Features

  • Centralizes storage of all MSDSs for better security and control.
  • Allows multiple MSDSs (by date) for a vendor.
  • Supports archiving of old MSDSs.
  • Define your own MSDS Sections or use industry standards.
  • Uses the same chemical database used by the Chemical Inventory, 313 Form R, LDAR and other EPOCH Modules.
  • Create MSDS on your PC and upload to the host platform or create on the host platform.
  • Provides four methods of storing MSDSs (see back side for further discussion of methods):
    - Card Catalog: Chemical name, vendor and current MSDS date are maintained in software with reference to location of hardcopy.
    - Full Text - No Sections: Entire MSDS entered into one section - easy data entry.
    - Full Text - Sections: Text entered in user-defined sections - allows access of particular information.
    - Supports Imaging: Chemical name, vendor and current MSDS date are maintained in software - press a hot key to view image of sheet.
  • Use an unlimited amount of aliases to retrieve MSDSs (e.g., purchasing uses Part Number, Chemists use CAS Number, workers use slang name).
  • Access only MSDSs for your location.
  • Provides a List Manager function which allows groupings of similar chemicals.
  • Can be used in conjunction with the Chemical Approval Module which allows inventory manager to review hazardous chemicals before they come on-site.
  • When used with the Chemical Inventory Module, workers will initially see picklist of chemicals for only their area which minimizes the chance of picking the wrong sheet.
  • Available for use on PC, PC/LAN, VAX, UNIX and IBM Mainframe computers.

Benefits

  • Saves money by automating your MSDS program.
  • Saves money by reducing access and retrieval time.
  • Reduces time spent locating and updating MSDSs.
  • Insures compliance with OSHA by having the most current sheet.

Standard Reports
To help you extract valuable summary information about the chemicals at your facility, the MSDS Module offers several standard reports. All reports have menus that allow you to specify the report parameters before printing. Reports may be directed to the screen, printer or a text file.

  • Material Safety Data Sheet - Generates MSDSs from the shop floor or any location where there is a terminal that is connected to the host computer. MSDSs are selected by chemical, vendor and date. Entire MSDS or just portions can be viewed /printed.
  • MSDS by Vendor - Lists all MSDS chemicals for the specified Vendor.
  • Vendor by MSDS - Lists all Vendors that supply a specified chemical.
  • Vendor File Listing - Lists descriptive information on all vendors on file. The Vendor File is used for different EPOCH modules; therefore, you can limit your report to one vendor type (chemical manufacturer) or all.

Different Ways to Store Sheets
The cornerstone of the MSDS Module is flexibility. Every company is different and each one handles their MSDS program differently. Whichever method your company uses, the MSDS Module has one or more options to handle your needs.

  • Card Catalog - If you have an extensive paper library of MSDSs which is organized efficiently, you may not have the need (or manpower) to enter the sheets in the system. Instead, enter the Chemical Name, Vendor, and MSDS Date and a description of where the sheet if physically located.
  • Full Text - No Sections - Each MSDS is entered in a single text file. The advantage is data entry time is cut down; however, you cannot select particular sections for viewing. Data entry can be done on a word processor and up-loaded to your system or it can be performed directly within the module.
  • Full Text - Sections - Each MSDS is entered in individual sections. This method is the most comprehensive of the first three mentioned, but it entails more data entry. Workers can access information for a particular section and then proceed to another section. Data entry can be done on a word processor and up-loaded to your system or it can be performed directly within the module.
  • Supports Imaging - If you have an extensive paper library of MSDSs which is organized efficiently, you may want to image your sheets. Within EPOCH, you would enter the Chemical Name, Vendor, and MSDS Date. Then, when you press a "hot key", the image would appear on the screen. Additional hardware/software is required for imaging.

Information Used by the Module
The following is a list of information used by the MSDS Module:

  • Basic chemical data and hazard categories.
  • Sections and fields for MSDS design.
  • Unlimited number of synonyms for chemical (CAS #, Purchase Codes, Common Name, etc.)
  • Facility breakdown to specific locations and sublocations.
  • Basic Vendor information including name, address, phone number, contact, etc.
